Alright. I have not been good at updating. I apologize to all and sundry. And to make up for it, or to begin to, I present you with a thought.
Here is why I love So You Think You Can Dance over all other reality shows: everyone on that show has skills. Like, real actual skills that require actual hard work to acquire. I mean, American Idol always has kids on who have only ever sung in their living room, and who forget to grow throughout the course of the show, and Project Runway always lets on that one fruitcake who like, glues shit to their dresses, and anyway I no longer get Bravo so Project Runway is dead to me. But every single person on So You Think You Can Dance can do amazing things. And! The judges give actual critiques that actually help the dancers technically—not just for the show, but for LIFE. In fact, that’s why I love this show the most, I think. Unlike the rest of these reality program contests, this doesn’t at all feel like the “end” of people’s lives or careers. This is one more experience in their lives. Rock Star: INXS did that, too. It was nice.
And one day, we can talk about Nigel, and how awful he can be, and how he loves disco because it “celebrates the 70s”, but really because he has never left the 70s, and how he’s homophobic in the most gay-friendly of fields. So.
